Drifting Through Life

Walking.
Walking fast.
Walking aimlessly.

Thinking.
Thinking about the ups and downs of life:
Its joy, tragedy, beauty, and shittiness.
Thinking—drifting through thoughts aimlessly.

Looking.
Looking at the lovely girl across the street,
At her tired eyes, locked to her phone.
Looking with no destination.

Working.
Working long hours in a sterile cubicle,
Chasing deadlines and dreams that aren’t your own.
Working through fatigue and quiet desperation,
Working with no sense of fulfillment.

Traveling.
Traveling to a popular city,
To take a picture for Instagram.
Traveling to forget the brutal routine
Traveling without purpose.

Millions of lost souls, wandering around us,
Walking, thinking, looking, working, traveling aimlessly.
Burdened by love, hate, mortgage, and debt.
Many already dead, though not yet buried.

Such is the story of the masses—
How they live, breathe, and consume oxygen.
How they die— are mourned, then shortly forgotten,
With no afterlife in sight…
